Sections: Asymmetric Beams

1. Introduction
Asymmetric Beams are a range of hot rolled sections, rolled exclusively at Teesside Beam Mill, nominally between 280 and 300mm deep, with a 190mm wide embossed ‘Admiralty Diamond’ type pattern on the top flange and a 300mm wide bottom flange. They are available in grades S355JR and J0.

2. Key Benefits
While an integral part of the Slimdek system, Asymmetric Beams can be purchased separately. The key benefits are:

a) The ‘Admiralty Diamond’ pattern on the top flange binds with the surrounding concrete, saving the expense and time of welding shear stud connectors on the top of a beam.
b) The wide bottom flange does away with the need to weld a steel shelf plate to the underside of the beam.
c) The product has inherent fire resistance qualities, reducing or eliminating completely the need for fire protection.

The Corus Construction Centre offers technical advice and assistance on the use and application of ASBs.

3. Lead time and Availability
Although not published as part of the formal rolling programme ASB280 size is generally rolled every four weeks and the 300ASB size every six weeks.

In order to meet customer delivery requirements, a range of Asymmetric Beams is held in stock at Teesside Works.
